Travel Internal Frame

Is it problematic to use an internal frame backpack at only half capacity?
I'm deciding which internal frame backpack to buy. I'll be using it for overseas travel and wilderness hikes. These trips will vary from a couple days to several weeks.
I'm thinking of buying a pack that's 6,000 cubic inches or more. Obviously, I wouldn't need all that space for just a weekend backpacking trip. But will that be a problem? Will it be problematic if I try to use the pack only half-full?
Thanks!
Nothing wrong with filling your pack below capacity. Just balance the load regardless of how full it is and you're good to go. The pack should have straps so that you can pull it tight from a variety of angles to keep the weight close to and evenly distributed around your body, make sure the one you get allows you to be able to pull your load tight with the same amount of gear that you plan to carry on your smaller trips.
A good store will let you practice filling the backpacks up with some gear to see how it feels.
