What Is the Best Flashlight for Survival? Part 2
We discussed some of the features a body should consider when choosing an emergency flashlight in What Is the Best Flashlight for Survival? Part 1. There are numerous things to consider when shopping for a survival flashlight.
In ths article we will continue on giving some thought to jsut what would make the ideal or best survival flashlight.
What kind of bulb will best serve you?
LED has come along long way baby. They now pack a lot of light in those tiny diodes. For extended battery time nothing beats them. They are becoming much more popular in all fields of the flashlight and with good reason.
For extemely bright light, you will need to go with halogen or a similar kind of bulb for beam. Of course, you will be making a trade off with battery longevity with the brighter candlepower. If there is a chance your batteries may give out on you and you don't have spares or you forget to keep them fresh, perhaps the hand crank flashlight would be our best option.
With a few cranks on the generator you have power for lights for quite some time. Some of these hand crank flashlights can even have the power robbing bulb replaced with the power miser LED bulb.
What kind of beam will you need?
Spot light or flood beam? Obviously spot light will reach out a long way and the flood light will cover a wide spectrum close at hand, but not reach way out there. Perhaps a variable adjustable flashlight would suit your needs the best. And adjustable light will let you zoom in and out as needed.
What size do you need?
Again, what will you use it for? If you are using it to get in the front door a little keychain flashlight will work great. If you are going rabbit hunting a spotlight flashlight would work well. If you are changing a tire or looking for something in the trunk, like the jack, perhaps the floodlight flashlight would work best.
In the end, the bigger the package the bigger the price tag. You get what you pay for. Some flashlights will last for years. Some will last until you get them home and junior gets his hands on it for a few minutes. Those buck or two flashlights are worth about what a buck is worth. Not much.
The best all around survival flashlight could be the hand crank flashlight.
