Flashlight Torch Set
You know the flashlight called Torch that can set paper on fire? Is it possible to collimate the beam so?
you have a powerful ray gun like in Star Wars?
I suppose that you are thinking of turning this into a weapon. Setting paper on fire is not such a big deal, ignition point is generally low and paper, which is mostly cellulose, is essentially a fuel so it burns easily once the ignition temperature is passed.
Even if you can collimate this beam properly, losses during propagation and beam diffraction would be enormous to make significant damage. Laser ray may do the trick, but it is very material dependent in that some material will melt and some other will not.
